When looking at the total number of medals and the total GDP, it looks like there are no patterns. There are countries with high GDP and perform well in both summer and winter Olympics like USA and German. There are also countries which perform much better in summer than winter like China and UK. And we can't find Norway here because it is not among the top 20 countries when talking about total GDP.
When turning to the GDP per Capita and the medals per million people, there are many interesting findings. First, Norway pops up as the 3rd richest country when measured by GDP per Capita and we clearly see it performs well in summer Olympic and dominates in winter Olympic. Secondly, we see more countries tending to perform well in only summer or winter games like Australia and Iceland are good at summer Olympic while Austria and Finland are good at winter Olympic.
